The New Zealand Society for Risk Management Inc 2012 conference will be held from Thursday 6th to Friday 7th September 2012 at Te Papa, in Wellington. Pre-conference workshop scheduled for Wednesday 5th September 2012.

The theme of the conference is “The Courage to Succeed – governance and leadership in uncertain times”, with the main focus being on how to drive success.

We will be hearing from people who have demonstrated exceptional leadership in the face of uncertainty and risk. We will also hear from international and local subject matter experts from a wide range of organisations and disciplines, who will share what they have learned about risk management for both governance and leadership in challenging and complex environments. The conference is designed for executives and senior managers who need to manage and succeed in today’s complex world; for those who need to manage risk as part of their roles; for those new to risk management; and for specialists in risk management who wish to challenge their current knowledge and thinking.

The two day conference will include keynotes by senior executives and leaders, seminars led by acknowledged experts and specialists as well as workshops facilitated by experienced professionals, covering:

  • Taking risk is a prerequisite to success
  • Courage to overcome the natural fear of ‘risk’
  • Risk management as an inherent part of success in uncertain times
  • Attitudes to ‘risk’ for both governance and management

Plus: New 2012 - Academic and research papers and/or poster session embodying new thinking in risk management in governance and strategy and its applications.

Additional separately bookable half day workshop

A separately bookable half-day workshop entitled “Risk Management Awareness” will be held on Wednesday 5 September (the day before the conference). The workshop is intended for managers who do not specialise in risk management and will provide an understanding of the purpose and value of risk management within the business, as well as introducing the tools to implement effective risk management within their area of responsibility. The workshop does not require prior knowledge or experience of risk management.
